RR GEORGE MARTIN

This website is going to be about one of the best writers in the world. Fantasy writer, novelist, scenario and comic scenario author George RR Martin. Man whose power of imagination gave me hours of enjoyment while reading his books. That is experience which I want to share with all the people that love reading good fantasy books, or just reading  good book, because this is a rare opportunity in which those two are the same.

People today are missing good fairy tales more than ever. Reality in which we live in is like a desert  - dry and lifeless. Science is explaining more and more of natural occurrences which in some point in history presented some sort of wonder to the people. And with all the technical stuff around us, storytelling is dying because it can not mach with the latest generation of game stations.

But our primeval being is still calling out for a good story in which everything is possible. We are full of reports of pain and misfortune, of the “real world”, what we need is to believe that there are heroes out there, and that they still capable of killing dragons which scare us. We need to believe that sometimes, those heroes, can be ourselves.

I can freely say that only author which managed to find a “middle ground” between our need to believe that unbelievable is still possible, and our modern day knowledge, which knows that there are no fair maidens, valiant knights, and just kings in this imperfect world is George RR Martin.

And for all the fantasy work in which he excels, Martin himself is refreshingly modest and down to earth type of writer. Nothing in his interviews seems artificial, he laughs at his own mistakes (his legendary prediction that his book “A Dance with Dragons” will be ended by 2005 – it came out 2011. His comment was that he will never again predict when ANY of his work will be done), and answers all questions from audience  with sincerity and seriousness which does him credit.

Martin likes to travel, and advertise his work, in addition to his waste love for American football (and his two favorite teams – Giants and Jets), and equally strong feelings for his wife Parris. He has been writing from his youth (his biography says that he sold short horror stories to neighborhood children for pennies). And continued through high school, where he became fan of comic books and began writing for comic fanzines.

When I first dived in his imagination, it was electrifying experience. The book is “A Game of Thrones”, from a series of fantasy books “A Song of Ice and Fire”. Country in unnamed world that Martin created, and in which most of the events take place, is called Westeros. Main feature of this world is changing of the seasons – summers last for years, and winters last for decades! In such environment Martin placed something one could call medieval fantasy. Everything is there – knights, kings, queens, tournaments… what is different is incredible amount of lifelike characters and events. Main characters get killed for making wrong choices, plots get reveled, schemes backfire, everybody are just human, and sooner or later make mistake, and Martin is ruthless – no character is safe. That is something that modern day people can believe, and that gives a foothold for our imagination! All you have to do is to forget here and now, and let your imagination wonder of into the lands of Westeros.

Beside this Martin wrote many novels, books and even children’s book (hopefully he spared main character:). But definitively his best work, his “crown achievement”, so to speak, is “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, and everything related to it. First and foremost there is already mentioned series, in which there are five books: A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, A Feast for Crows, A Dance with Dragons. The series have a spin-off : “Tales of Dunk and Egg” series of novellas set in the world of A Song of Ice and Fire – The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword, The Mystery Knight.

And finally, television adaptation of the first book in the series, HBO  dramatic pay-cable series Game of Thrones ( a must see!), for which the second season is in casting stage.

With all this been said, sad but true fact is that relatively little number of websites are committed to this phenomenal author and his work. With that in mind, and with best of my abilities, I’ve started this website which is committed to promotion and sales of books and other cool stuff connected to this author and his work in one place,and that will hopefully allow many people interested in this area to find all they want to buy,and is connected to George RR Martin.
